Dynamic content overview - Card Layout

News and Agenda items are usually displayed in what is called a Dynamic Content Overview. The news / agenda feed on your page is one as well. There are several overview templates available, but there was great demand for a template that displayed the search results in a card layout. This has now been introduced, an example can be seen on the right.

Also, check out more Card Layout display options!

Styling is determined by the available content of the result pages, as well as custom settings in the overview element. All card variations (normal, half height, horizontal, and horizontal half height) are available to choose from, as well as the number of results per row.

Because the overviews are difficult to set up properly, changing from your current template to this new template is not done by editors. Please contact your local content manager to apply for this overview template.

Building human capital through Learning Communities As the world contends with the challenge of transitioning to sustainable energy systems, TU Delft plays a key role by supporting skill and knowledge acquisition through micro-learning communities. These initiatives aim to build the human capital needed to drive innovation and lead the energy transition in a collaborative learning setting where professionals and researchers work on solutions while building on their competences. At the heart of these efforts is the TU Delft Extension School, which recently secured top-up funding to facilitate micro-learning communities for the DEMOSES and HyChain-ESI projects. Rather than focusing solely on technical solutions, TU Delft facilitates bridging the gap between academia, industry, and policy providing additional ways to educate new generations of engineers for the energy sector alongside today’s professionals. Through the Extension School it promotes continuous learning and prepares a workforce capable of tackling the uncertainties of the energy transition now and in the future. This collaborative environment helps dismantle barriers, ensuring that outcomes are relevant to real-world challenges, while also enhancing individual expertise and collective problem-solving abilities. The DEMOSES and HyChain-ESI projects, which focus on energy system integration and hydrogen technologies,illustrate how these micro-learning communities operate. Their main aim is to advance specific technologies while continuously upskilling energy sector professionals to meet emerging challenges. TU Delft provides a structured environment for collaboration, enabling participants to acquire new skills and return to their organisations ready to inspire further innovation. This continuous learning process, supported by tools such as serious games and hands-on workshops, enhances expertise, facilitates knowledge sharing, and promotes sector-wide innovation. ET-TLC: Learning Communities for Students Another example of TU Delft’s successful implementation of learning communities is the ET-TLC project, which centres on students. These communities create a rich learning environmentt that facilitates transdisciplinary education, equipping students with deeper skills and providing concrete insights into how they can inpact society. Through a transformative identity formation process, students are encouraged to rethink and redefine traditional notions of engineering, challenging them on who an engineer could or should be. Jack Cable (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) gives CYS distinguished talk

October is the "Cybersecurity Awareness Month". At TU Delft Cybersecurity group, we hosted Jack Cable from Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency who gave a talk on October 3 about his latest work on "Showing the Receipts: Understanding the Modern Ransomware Ecosystem" that appeared in e-Crime 2024. Ransomware attacks continue to wreak havoc across the globe, with public reports of total ransomware payments topping billions of dollars annually. While the use of cryptocurrency presents an avenue to understand the tactics of ransomware actors, to date published research has been constrained by relatively limited public datasets of ransomware payments. We present novel techniques to identify ransomware payments with low false positives, classifying nearly $700 million in previously-unreported ransomware payments. We publish the largest public dataset of over $900 million in ransomware payments -- several times larger than any existing public dataset. We then leverage this expanded dataset to present an analysis focused on understanding the activities of ransomware groups over time. This provides unique insights into ransomware behavior and a corpus for future study of ransomware cybercriminal activity. Jack Cable is a Senior Technical Advisor at CISA, where he leads the agency's work on Secure by Design and open source software security. Prior to that, Jack worked as a TechCongress Fellow for the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, advising Chairman Gary Peters on cybersecurity policy, including election security and open source software security. He previously worked as a Security Architect at Krebs Stamos Group. Jack also served as an Election Security Technical Advisor at CISA, where he created Crossfeed, a pilot to scan election assets nationwide. Jack is a top bug bounty hacker, having identified over 350 vulnerabilities in hundreds of companies. After placing first in the Hack the Air Force bug bounty challenge, he began working at the Pentagon’s Defense Digital Service. Jack holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Stanford University and has published academic research on election security, ransomware, and cloud security.

Marina van Damme Grant

The Marina van Damme Grant is awarded each year to talented female alumni from Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, the University of Twente or Wageningen University. The grant consists of a grant of €9000,- and an award. This grant is made possible thanks to Dr. ir. Marina van Damme. Marina van Damme obtained her Master’s degree at TU Delft in 1953 and she was the first female student to obtain her PhD at the former Technical University College Twente in 1965. With this grant, Marina van Damme wants to enable young female engineers to further develop themselves and to increase their career opportunities. The grant is intended to help winners to broaden their knowledge or explore international opportunities in the form of a study programme, internship or project in the Netherlands or abroad. Marina van Damme The Marina van Damme Grant is made possible thanks to Dr. ir. Marina van Damme. Marina obtained her Master’s degree at TU Delft in 1953 and she was the first female student to obtain her PhD at the former Technical University College Twente in 1965. A runner-up prize will be provided by alumnus ir Allerd Stikker. 10 October | Marina van Damme Award Ceremony 2024 On Thursday 10 October, Delft University Fund organised the 2024 Marina van Damme Grant Award Ceremony. Three female Delft alumni stood the chance to win the coveted grant of €9,000: Marjolijn Heslinga , Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Natalia Vtyurina , Faculty of Applied Sciences Jessica Sun , Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management After three impressive pitches and a short jury meeting, Prof. Marina van Geenhuizen, chair of the jury, announced that it was Natalia Vtyurina for winning the 2024 Marina van Damme Award. In addition, Marjolijn Heslinga was recognised as the runner-up for her contributions. The third price was granted to Jessica Sun. Natalia is the winner and has been granted Marina van Damme award 2024 € 9,000-, Marjolijn received the runner-up prize worth € 2,500-, and the third price of €1,000,- was given tot Jessica Sun, those prices have been provided by alumnus Allerd Stikker via the Fortuna Fund and by Delft University Fund. Ludovica Cassina did also not go home empty-handed either. Her presentation was so appreciated that she received a double runner-up prize worth €5,000, of which one is provided by alumnus Allerd Stikker via the Fortuna Fund and one by Delft University Fund. Read the news article Read more about the nominees 2024 Winners and nominees previous years Marina van Damme Network Recipients of the Marina van Damme Grant automatically become a member of the Marina van Damme network. This network supports for example the annual scholarship awards, organizes gatherings aimed to inspire previous recipients, and stimulates informative talks at schools to encourage girls and young women to take up engineering. Every year, the winners of the Marina van Damme Grant meet under the apple tree in Ms Van Damme’s own garden. These are not only the winners from TU Delft, but also the winners from the other institutions that award the grant: the University of Twente, Eindhoven University of Technology and, as from 2018, Wageningen University.

Tabs as Grid Elements

What changed?

Tabs were difficult to manage, especially when you wanted to re-use and swap content from other pages. Therefore, the tab element has been redesigned for a more user-friendly interface, a better overview of the embedded content, and the added possibility to cut/paste and reference elements in it.

The old Tab element still exists and is not automatically replaced, but will be phased out. For this purpose, the old version has been disabled for editing. In the following weeks, we'll be changing all existing Tab Elements to Tabs Grids. Should you however come across an old Tab Element and you find yourself unable to edit it, please contact your local content manager.

How can I create a new Tabs Grid?

Tabs Grids are created like all other grids. When creating a new element, under Grid Elements, select Tabs grid. This will place a grid on your page with 5 rows, each row representing one of the tabs.

  • The Header in the first element of each tab will also be the title of that tab. So for instance, in this case, the Header of this text element ('How can I create ...') is adapted as Tab title.
  • You can select a colour theme by editing the Tabs Grid properties; under Appearance, select a theme (see fig.)
  • If you don't put any content in a tab, it will be invisible.

 

Any tips and tricks?

When you don't want to start a tab with a header (for instance, when it's an image), you still need to tell Typo3 which title to use for this tab. You can do so by creating a 'Header Only' element, and under Type, select 'Hidden'. This will not show the header inside your tab, but it will be adopted as Tab title.

Youtube video in Header Slider

It is now possible to put a video in the Header Slider on top of any page. 

If you want to add a Youtube video to your header-slider, just paste the youtube URL in the link field of a slide; a play button will be shown on your slide, and a pop-up style video will play when the button is pushed.

Like all slides, this feature also requires you to upload an image.

Full Width page template

This page combines the regular Content page with the Homepage. Its features are identical to the Homepage format in many ways, but it adds the bread crumb on top, so visitors can easily find their way back.

This layout was frequently created with a workaround (Content Page with Left Column, combined with specific element settings), which is why an official option has been included instead. 

To create this layout, go to the page properties, under Appearance, select the Backend Layout 'Content page that is full width'.

Special Page template

This is another new page template (see: Full Width page template). This layout is designed for a long-read format, by dividing the screen in two halves; the left one is designated for images, the right one for all content. There is also a special connection between picture and content, enabling a nice scrolling experience.
Try it out!

This layout is particularly useful for magazine-style pages.

To create this layout:

  • go to the page properties; under Appearance, select the Backend Layout 'Special Page' (see fig.).

  • On this new page, create a new element; under Grid Elements, select Special Container (see fig.). This grid consists of two columns.

  • In the left column, you place a 'Special Image' element.
    This is the image that is displayed stationary alongside the scrolling content on the right; when the visitor is at the end of the content in this Special Container, the image will scroll up, and display the next Special Container.

  • In the right column, you place a normal 100% Grid element.

  • In the element properties of this Grid Element, under Appearance, select 'Used for content on special pages..' (see fig.).

  • Inside this 100% grid, you can place all elements to your liking.

The last steps, creating a 100% grid, are necessary to create the Special layout as it was designed. This element layout compresses the width of the elements within - otherwise, the text would run the entire width of the column.

Facts and Figures element

This is a new element to display, for instance, facts and figures.

To create this, add a new Fact element inside a grid. Under Theme, select the header colour.
Then, edit the grid properties, go to the tab Appearance, and choose a background colour under 'Theme'.

Please note: the fact element only properly works in combination with this coloured grid background.

Coloured grid background

The background colour feature for grids can also be used without a fact element. It may for instance be useful for magazine-type pages, to highlight a specific text.

Two layout guidelines:

  • Dont overdo it! These coloured grids are very dominant. Don't create an abstract piece of art.
  • See if you should add top and bottom margins (under Appearance), to prevent the grid from overlapping with other elements. 

To create this, edit the grid properties, go to the tab Appearance, and choose a background colour under 'Theme':

Notification element

This element can be used to draw attention to a certain part of your website, or a call-to-action (for instance, when an application deadline is approaching). You can add one or two buttons. The element is available in all TU Delft theme colours.

To create this, add a new Notification element. Enter a header, text, and theme, and, optionally, one or two buttons. The buttons can either be white or transparent.

Read More-toggle

This option allows you, in a Text element, to hide paragraphs under a 'read more'-line (as seen below).

To create this, in the Rich Text Editor (RTF) of the Text element, stand in the text on the desired location. Click on 'Insert Custom Element', then 'Tudelft', then 'Insert Readmore'. An orange marker will appear in your text.

To demonstrate this, a piece of literary history:

Image side caption

An option has been added to display a caption next to an image. This was a feature in the original design, and works well in storytelling articles.

To create this, go the the element properties, under Appearance, and choose 'Image fullwidth with caption'.
On the General tab, under Description, fill in the caption text.

The caption can now be placed next to the image.
