The rapid expansion of Open Science activities within Dutch universities requires a corresponding discussion about how to monitor progress. It is timely to initiate discussions about how to monitor Open Science in a manner that supports diversity of practice, but informs a national programme of transformation. This workshop will bring together Open Science practitioners and scholars from around The Netherlands to discuss monitoring and share expertise from existing initiatives with the aim of initiating a countrywide dialogue. Goals This workshop has four key goals: To share experiences of monitoring Open Science at an institutional level and to identify opportunities for best practice sharing To identify areas of Open Science that currently do not have robust monitoring strategies and require further attention To discuss how institutional monitoring can align and support international monitoring strategies such as UNESCO and EOSC To create a community of practitioners to continue to work on the development of responsible Open Science monitoring strategies and tools Outputs and future developments The outcomes of the workshop will be consolidated into a workshop summary that will serve as a basis for a co-created publication on Open Science monitoring in the Netherlands. Peer Review Showdown: Navigating the Future of Scholarly Publishing

Peer Review Showdown: Navigating the Future of Scholarly Publishing 26 september 2024 12:30 t/m 13:30 - Locatie: TU Delft Library, Prometheusplein 1, 2628 ZC Delft | Zet in mijn agenda Cancelled due to illness Register Join us for a dynamic debate on the evolving landscape of peer review in scholarly publishing. This session brings together a commercial publisher (Sam Perkins, Executive Peer Review Manager at SAGE publishing) and a researcher (Dr.ir. Frank van der Hoeven, Director of Research at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft and Programme Manager Open Science), to tackle pressing questions about the responsibilities and rewards of peer reviewers, especially in the context of Open Access and Open Scholarly Communication. What to expect In this structured debate, the publisher and researcher will engage in a lively exchange over four key statements: Scholars should review articles relevant to their expertise regardless of whether the articles are published OA or not. Scholars should review articles relevant to their expertise regardless of the APC costs that the journal charges. Publsihers, unlike researchers themselves, are best suited to coordinate the review process (including finding the reviewers prior to publishing, coordinating the comments and their implementation before the articles are published). Reviewers should always get paid for their work. The format will include initial arguments, counter-arguments, and rebuttals from both sides, followed by a chance for the audience to vote on who made the most compelling case. The debate will be moderated, and audience interaction will be encouraged through live polling. Why attend This debate offers a unique opportunity to hear contrasting perspectives on critical issues in peer review. Whether you're a researcher, publisher, or simply interested in the future of academic publishing, you'll gain valuable insights into the challenges and potential solutions in this essential part of the scholarly process. Plus, you'll have a chance to voice your opinion and see how your views compare with those of your peers. REGISTER to secure a free vegan lunch.
