The ukulele is a string instrument that has recently gained in popularity. It is the acoustic guitar’s smaller brother and is played in much the same way. It’s a fairly simple instrument to play, which doesn’t take hours of practice.

Anyone can sign up for this individual course, whether you are an absolute beginner or an experienced guitarist. These private lessons give you the chance to learn at your own pace and set your own challenges. The content of the course is adapted to your level and learning objectives. The focus can be on improving your rhythm or technique, improvising or playing certain arrangements or songs. Practice, accompanying music and other materials will all help you to achieve your musical aims.

Junhyung An

Born in Busan, South Korea, guitarist Junhyung relocated to the Netherlands in 2007 to study jazz guitar at Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam and won a prize from the Dutch Guitar Awards (DGA) in 2009. After earning his master's degree with top marks in 2014, Junhyung began his doctoral research at the Orpheus Institute and Leiden University. Since 2009, he has maintained a performing career while teaching guitar for over 15 years. Specializing in technique coaching, improvisation, fretboard navigation, rhythm, and theory application, Junhyung tailors his approach to meet each student’s unique needs and goals.

Practical Information

The teacher speaks English. 

The course takes place outside (in Freetown).

Bring your own ukulele. This can also be the ukulele you built yourself during the Woodworking course! 

If you do not have a ukulele, you can borrow one.  We have a maximum of 6 ukuleles to lend. You can ask the hosts for more info.

Don’t forget to bring a tuner for the ukulele.
