2024-11-05 | Interdisciplinary thesis lab Green Skies - Creative design(s) from EOL aircraft parts and materials repurposing and reusing aircraft parts and materials into new products, LDE CfS & NLR; AETHOS; Collins Aerospace

Many aircraft parts are designed for a predefined lifetime. This design lifetime can be limited by e.g. the number of use cycles, certification, economic or even branding considerations. As a result, the materials and parts are often still in sound physical condition to use in another application. In very few cases, products are repurposed and considered for alternative reuse. For example, turning the cockpit into a simulator, or using a wing section as table or building roof. However, these examples fall short of using the unique material qualities effectively, hardly contribute to processing the volume of end of life aircraft materials, and do not communicate the potential for such reuse.

2024-11-05 | Design of an automated follow-me vehicle, TU Delft & Usher AI

The future of aviation depends on achieving growth in a responsible and therefore sustainable way (ICAO). The current opera-onal concepts of airports are stretched, with infrastructure and resources limitations impacting ground movements particularly. We need to work smarter, not build more of the same. THE ASSIGNMENT- is to design the automated Usherbot vehicle which drives in front of an aircraft on the platform area of any airport during any weather circumstance or time of the day, the so-called regulated follow-me process.

2024-11-05 | Design a Reusable Packaging System for Soft Fruits, Re2Pack

Plastic packaging of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs) creates a worrying 35 kg of plastic packaging waste per person per year in the EU. Proper waste recycling still falls short in tackling this issue. In this project, you are invited to contribute to the Re2Pack project by creating a reusable packaging concept for soft fruits. In this project, you are asked to focus on the consumer interaction with the system. You are free to come up with whatever design you think fits best.

2024-11-05 | 2 Graduation Opportunities for Perfect Fit; Transforming Modular Wheelchair Seating with a Unique Mounting Solution; Transforming Patients Well-Being with Pressure Relief Seating

Transforming Modular Wheelchair Seating with a Unique Mounting Solution; The Perfect Fit SEC is currently developing a new seating system with advanced positioning possibilities for the orthosis market. This innovative seating system requires a unique mounting solution for manual and powered wheelchairs from the clients portfolio and beyond. The student will begin by understanding the current market solutions and the specific requirements of the ongoing seating system development. They will explore existing solutions and the functionalities of the perspective wheelchairs and ultimately deliver 1-2 creative concept recommendations for a modular mounting solution tailored for adaptability in seating systems Transforming Patients Well-Being with Pressure Relief Seating; The Perfect Fit SEC is developing a new seating system with advanced positioning possibilities for the orthosis market, requiring an innovative cushion solution to provide effective, full-body pressure relief. This cushion must allow for optimal air flow, be durable, and ideally be reusable for long-lasting comfort. The student will begin by researching existing market solutions, human anatomy needs, and specific pressure relief requirements in seating systems. They will ultimately propose one cushion concept with ideal pressure distribution through densities and shape.

2024-10-28 | Co-creation / Action Research / Co-Design / Participatory Design / Governance (ESDH, The Hague)

The project "Achter afval" (behind waste) aims to investigate the underlying causes of waste nuisance in The Hague. Many current interventions address only the symptoms, making solutions temporary and primarily effective in neighbourhoods with higher levels of social cohesion. Together with the Municipality of The Hague, we want to develop a deeper understanding of the social, cultural, economic and psychological mechanisms that cause these problems. Using co-creation and active participatory research, we gain insight into the underlying causes of littering (such as placing trash next to bins) and develop solutions that respond to these deeper causes.
