As an SEQ participant, you are a point of contact within your program or institution for testing. By sharing your knowledge and working together with colleagues, you contribute to the quality of both individual tests and the entire assessment organization. The SEQ helps you develop a substantiated vision on assessment, to conduct substantive discussions and to evaluate assessment programs with specific recommendations for improvement. This is done, among other things, through a self-defined, individual (faculty based) project. In addition, you learn to assess the effectiveness of the assessment policy and quality assurance, to develop guidelines for colleagues, and to critically reflect on your own assessment competencies for further growth. SEQ is focussed on cross-disciplinary assessment challenges on programme level. If you are looking for training that addresses broader educational challenges, please have a look at the SUTQ (Senior University Teaching Qualification). If you are looking for assessment training on course level, please have a look at UTQ ASSESS . Learning objectives After the course, you should be able to: Formulate a substantiated personal vision on the role of assessment in higher education. Formulate implications of your personal vision for assessment within your (degree) programme and/or faculty and/or university. Initiate a substantive discussion, based on literature, about the function and (improvement of) quality of assessment within the (degree) programme. Evaluate the quality of programme assessment plans in relation to the intended learning outcomes and their coherence with the assessment policy and vision on education and assessment. Evaluate the effectiveness of assessment policy and quality assurance. Improve the quality of assessment in your department by developing and implementing assessment guidelines and policies. Reflect on your assessment competency by formulating plans for your continuous development. Assessment Matrix Target group Teachers who currently or in the future work with assessment at a cross-disciplinary level: Education directors/coordinators, examination committee members, curriculum/track coordinators. The condition is that they have obtained the UTQ. Education/assessment advisors who advise on assessment at a cross-disciplinary level. We expect advisors to actively read up to UTQ level. Staff who have a project idea in which they tackle an assessment related challenge, aligned, mandated and supported by the Faculty/Programme. Working method during the module During the course, you will work on a project that enhances the assessment quality at programme level. At the end of the course, you will present the (intermediate) results. Before you start, you will have to select the assessment-related topic/problem on which you will base your project on a course-superseding level. This project is typically part of your role as e.g. track coordinator, learning line coordinator, programme director, assessment advisor, or senior member of the board of examiners. Your initial ideas for the project will be discussed during the intake interview. You will be coached on the project during the SEQ. Each session of the SEQ will support you with successfully carrying out your project. The following topics will be covered in these sessions: Session 1: vision on assessment. Session 2: preconditions for assessment quality: thematic explorations. Session 3: assessment policy and quality assurance. Session 4: programme assessment plans. Session 5: impact assessment. Format: Face-to-face meetings Number of sessions: five group sessions and two individual sessions with your coach. Study load: 70 hours Language: English (unless all participants speak Dutch) Assessment in SEQ A portfolio is used to demonstrate that participants master the four SEQ qualities according to the assessment matrix below. Mid-term there will be a progress meeting with your SEQ coach. Portfolio A digital portfolio consists of 6 final products, which are graded pass/fail with a rubric. Each product requires a pass: Individual vision on assessment. Presentation of thematic exploration (presentation). Benchmark analysis programme assessment plan. Recommendations for assessment policy. Individual quality enhancement project (presentation and article). Final reflection (written reflection). Evaluation Qualities You will be assessed on the following national SEQ certificate requirements . Quality 1: you act within the context of the assessment policy and the assessment organisation You evaluate the quality of those parts of/processes within the assessment organisation for which you are responsible, and can advise on these. In doing so, you are aware of the different roles, tasks and responsibilities within the assessment organisation. In your role, you contribute actively to practical guidance for colleagues, and to the development, implementation and/or evaluation of assessment policy and/or the (frameworks of the) assessment organisation of the degree programme. Quality 2: you act within the educational and assessment programme You actively contribute to developing the assessment programme of the degree programme. You evaluate the quality of the assessment programme in relation to the programme learning outcomes, and advise on the (re)design of the assessment programme. You oversee the whole as well as the coherence and interconnections between assessments within the degree programme in relation to the education programme. Quality 3: you can adequately apply assessment knowledge and skills You support and supervise colleagues in the assessment process, and evaluate the quality of your own assessments and those of colleagues. You translate the outcomes of evaluations into specific recommendations. You advise on issues relating to design and evaluation. In doing so, you constantly balance issues based on the function of the assessments and the context in which they are used. Quality 4: you retain your assessment literacy As a critical professional, you focus on the continuous development of your own assessment literacy, in line with your role, tasks and responsibilities. You hold and/or initiate a substantive discussion about the importance of assessment literacy as part of teacher competence, and about the quality of assessment within the degree programme. Assessment Matrix These qualities (numbered Q1 to Q4 in the table below) are assessed as follows: Duration of the programme The SEQ programme lasts 11 months and starts in February. Certificate A certificate for the Senior Examination Qualification is granted, if you have attended all sessions and you have successfully completed the deliverables. Costs and admission and attendance The cost for this module is €800, including SEQ certificate, lunch, coffee, etc. All sessions are mandatory so please make sure you can attend them before you sign up. Prerequisites Completion of the SEQ intake Teachers: completion of UTQ Advisors: familiarity with UTQ-level content A supported, assessment-related project idea To view session dates, contact information and to register, please visit Opleidingsportaal . Can We Live Without Private Space?

Can We Live Without Private Space? 26 November 2024 12:45 till 13:30 - Location: The Nook | Add to my calendar How would you solve the housing crisis, the (elderly) care crisis, and the loneliness and mental health crises in one fell swoop? Try communal living today! Share your private space, your facilities, your balcony or garden, even the key to your front door with people who will eventually stop being complete strangers. By living together, we can overcome all these societal problems and live a more Meaningful Life™ to boot. Jokes aside: these are huge issues and there may be some potential here. Problem is, Dutch culture doesn’t seem to facilitate communal sharing; we tend to just buy everything individually. To discover the potential of communal sharing and living, we need to ask ourselves what our essentials are in life, and where our boundaries lie. Would you share your living room, for example? including the tv, music, decoration, etc? How about a bathroom, kitchen, or garden? Or even your bedroom, like people did in the past? Maybe your office space, or a laundry room, or tools, hedge trimmers, pets, soap bars, toothbrushes, utility bills, etc, etc? Let’s find out where the boundary lies for us, and what an increased level of sharing would do for our quality of life. I’ve arrived at this question not just because we occasionally touch upon communism in our conversations, but because having lived the life of a student (dorms, housemates), a bachelor, and a family man, I’m curious now if having our own house, our own everything , makes us bad at living together with others? A key solution to grid congestion

On behalf of the TU Delft PowerWeb Institute, researchers Kenneth Brunninx and Simon Tindemans are handing over a Position Paper to the Dutch Parliament on 14 November 2024, with a possible solution to the major grid capacity problems that are increasingly cropping up in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is unlikely to meet the 2030 climate targets, and one of the reasons for this is that large industry cannot switch to electricity fast enough, partly because of increasingly frequent problems around grid capacity and grid congestion. In all likelihood, those problems will actually increase this decade before they can decrease, the researchers argue. The solution offered by the TU Delft PowerWeb Institute researchers is the ‘flexible backstop’. With a flexible backstop, the current capacity of the power grid can be used more efficiently without sacrificing safety or reliability. A flexible backstop is a safety mechanism that automatically and quickly reduces the amount of electricity that an electric unit can draw from the grid (an electric charging station or a heat pump) or deliver (a PV installation). It is a small device connected or built into an electrical unit, such as a charging station or heat pump, that ‘communicates’ with the distribution network operator. In case of extreme stress on the network, the network operator sends a signal to the device to limit the amount of power. Germany recently introduced a similar system with electric charging stations. The backstop would be activated only in periods of acute congestion problems and could help prevent the last resort measure, which is cutting off electricity to users. ‘Upgrading the electricity network remains essential, but in practice it will take years. So there is a need for short-term solutions that can be integrated into long-term planning. We, the members of the TU Delft PowerWeb Institute, call on the government, network operators and regulator to explore the flexible backstop as an additional grid security measure,’ they said. The entire Paper can be read here . 25 year celebration of formal collaboration between Delft University of Technology and the University of Campinas

On 25 October 2024 we celebrated 25 years of formal collaboration between Delft University of Technology and the University of Campinas. What began as a project to exchange some students in chemical engineering has now grown to a multifaceted and broad academic collaboration which accumulated into 24 joint research projects (>20 M Euro); 16 advanced courses and 15 Doctors with a Dual Degree PhD. Patricia Osseweijer, TU Delft Ambassador Brazil explained, “We are proud to show and reflect on this special day the added value we created resulting from our joint activities. The lessons we learned demonstrate that especially continuity of funds and availability for exchanges has contributed to joint motivation and building trust which created strong relations. This is the foundation for academic creativity and high-level achievements.” The program presented showcases of Dual Degree projects; research activities and education. It discussed the future objectives and new fields of attention and agree on the next steps to maintain and strengthen the foundation of strong relations. Telma Franco, Professor UNICAMP shared that “joint education and research has substantially benefitted the students, we see that back in the jobs they landed in,” while UNICAMP’s Professor Gustavo Paim Valenca confirmed that “we are keen to extend our collaboration to more engineering disciplines to contribute jointly to global challenges” Luuk van der Wielen highlighted that “UNICAMP and TU Delft provide valuable complementary expertise as well as infrastructures to accelerate research and innovation. Especially our joint efforts in public private partnerships brings great assets” To ensure our future activities both University Boards have launched a unique joint program for international academic leadership. This unique 7-month program will accommodate 12 young professors, 6 from each university. The programme began on 4 November 2024 in Delft, The Netherlands.
