Senior Examination Qualification

In the Senior Examination Qualification (SEQ) training, unlike the UTQ, we do not focus on individual tests, but on the broader assessment policy and the assessment program. As an SEQ participant, you are a point of contact within your program or institution for testing. By sharing your knowledge and working together with colleagues, you contribute to the quality of both individual tests and the entire assessment organization. The SEQ helps you develop a substantiated vision on assessment, to conduct substantive discussions and to evaluate assessment programs with specific recommendations for improvement. This is done, among other things, through a self-defined, individual (faculty based) project. In addition, you learn to assess the effectiveness of the assessment policy and quality assurance, to develop guidelines for colleagues, and to critically reflect on your own assessment competencies for further growth.

SEQ is focussed on cross-disciplinary assessment challenges on programme level. If you are looking for training that addresses broader educational challenges, please have a look at the SUTQ (Senior University Teaching Qualification). If you are looking for assessment training on course level, please have a look at UTQ ASSESS.

Assessment Matrix

Target group

  • Teachers who currently or in the future work with assessment at a cross-disciplinary level: Education directors/coordinators, examination committee members, curriculum/track coordinators. The condition is that they have obtained the UTQ.
  • Education/assessment advisors who advise on assessment at a cross-disciplinary level. We expect advisors to actively read up to UTQ level.
  • Staff who have a project idea in which they tackle an assessment related challenge, aligned, mandated and supported by the Faculty/Programme.

Working method during the module

During the course, you will work on a project that enhances the assessment quality at programme level. At the end of the course, you will present the (intermediate) results. Before you start, you will have to select the assessment-related topic/problem on which you will base your project on a course-superseding level. This project is typically part of your role as e.g. track coordinator, learning line coordinator, programme director, assessment advisor, or senior member of the board of examiners. Your initial ideas for the project will be discussed during the intake interview. You will be coached on the project during the SEQ. Each session of the SEQ will support you with successfully carrying out your project. The following topics will be covered in these sessions:

Session 1: vision on assessment.
Session 2: preconditions for assessment quality: thematic explorations.
Session 3: assessment policy and quality assurance.
Session 4: programme assessment plans.
Session 5: impact assessment.

  • Format: Face-to-face meetings
  • Number of sessions: five group sessions and two individual sessions with your coach.
  • Study load: 70 hours
  • Language: English (unless all participants speak Dutch)
