Julius Sommer

Julius obtained his MSc in Chemical Engineering from TU Delft in 2023 and his BSc in Chemical Engineering from TU Berlin.

During his master’s studies, he worked on the development of fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy for electrochemical systems, aiming to gain insights into the formation of pH boundary layers in such systems. Julius also gained industry experience with large players and startups in the chemical industry. His roles varied: commissioning large capital projects at BASF SE, piloting a PET depolymerization facility at DePoly SA, and modeling homogeneous reaction systems at C1 Green Chemicals AG.

In 2024, Julius joined Prof. Urakawa’s group as a PhD student. His PhD project, in collaboration with BASF SE and Shell PLC, and supported by the ARC-CBBC consortium, focuses on direct CO2 hydrogenation under high pressure and elevated temperatures.
