Self-Composed Minors
A self-composed minor form must be submitted to the Board of Examiners for approval. A request should be submitted at least 2 months prior to the start of the self-composed minor.

What is considered a self-composed minor?
- A cohesive programme of courses that are offered by TU Delft and/or another Dutch University at a third-year Bachelor’s level
- A thematic minor at a Dutch university other than TU Delft, Leiden University or Erasmus University (LDE alliance)
- A combination of multiple thematic minors (generally two 15 EC thematic minors to achieve 30 EC) within TU Delft, Leiden University or Erasmus University (LDE alliance)
- Used to replace course(s) that may not have been passed as a part of an approved minor that was studied abroad
General Requirements for the self-composed minor
- The combined EC from all courses must total 30 EC.
- M.Sc. courses are not allowed.
- Courses from a TU Delft thematic (selection or non-selection) minors are not allowed.
- The courses must be offered as a part of a university’s Bachelor programme – at TU Delft or another university in The Netherlands.
- The course content should be cohesive and linked by one theme.
- The theme must represent clear and added value to the student’s portfolio and be either:
- An extension of the student’s primary discipline
- Be an academic pursuit into a related field
- Be an academic pursuit in to a completely new field
- The theme must represent clear and added value to the student’s portfolio and be either:
- The selection of courses should be at a third-year Bachelors level.
- It is allowed to take a maximum of 15 EC from first or second-year if well motivated. The student must detail in their self-composed minor form how they contribute essential prior knowledge relating to the selected third-year courses.
- A student can apply for a project of a maximum of 10 EC under the condition that it will be assessed by two examiners. The content should be coherent and cohesive with the other courses of the self-composed minor.
Steps for requesting a self-composed minor in the Netherlands
- Decide on a common theme and select the courses for your self-composed minor.
- Complete the Self-Composed Minor Request Form.
- Submit the completed from to the Secretary to the Board of Examiners.
- Only full completed & signed forms will be processed.
- The request must be submitted at least 2 months prior to the start of the self-composed minor.
- It is the student’s responsibility to enrol and register for the chosen courses on time.
If there are any changes to the previously approved self-composed minor, a new self-composed minor form must be submitted.
Upon completion of a self-composed minor in the Netherlands
Upon completion of your self-composed minor, you will need to submit your official transcript and your approved self-composed minor form to the Board of Examiners.
