Research theme: Smart Textiles and Wearables

Textiles and wearables with sensors for unobtrusive monitoring of our biosignals in daily life situations

Smart textiles are garments with integrated sensors and actuators which can monitor our health condition during daily life, remind us to do some extra fitness activities or warn us when our blood pressure is too high. They can be used in hospitals for the continuous monitoring of patients but also to help soldiers navigating the dark and athletes to optimize their performance. Such smart textile systems are promising, have a large market potential and can be expected to become part of our daily life soon.
