Pilot Waste separation
Reducing the amount of residual waste
We will take the next step in waste separation on campus, with the goal of reducing the amount of residual (“other”) waste as much as possible. Every kilogram of waste that does not need to be burned as other waste, saves some emission of CO2. From August 2021 onwards, the buildings of TPM, CRE&FM, ESA, and the Library will have these waste separation units.
In 2020 the pilot started at the Faculty of Architecture and Aula. After evaluating the pilot, it was expanded to more buildings on campus. The separate waste bins will be replaced with central waste stations where you can separate paper, PMD (plastic, metal, drink cartons) and other waste. You can bring your waste to these locations which are no more than 30 seconds away from you. The waste bins for coffee cups are also still around! In the restaurants, you can also separate waste, including your food waste!
In these buildings the other waste is about 80% of the total waste. With the waste separation pilot, this amount can be reduced with the goal of a more sustainable campus. After a successful pilot, the waste separation can be implemented campuswide in the coming years.
Let’s take the next step towards a more sustainable campus; contribute to this by separating your waste properly with this guide!
