Technology offers huge potential as an enabler for sustainable development and innovation. But technology is also a disruptor.
Society is running to keep up with the rapid pace of technological development. The influx of new materials, digital fabrication tools and data technologies are already transforming the discipline of design. The challenge for design researchers is to establish the best ways to design using these new technologies in the interest of people, the environment and society.
Research at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering (IDE) employs a hands-on approach. We explore the opportunities, sticking points and dilemmas of this on-going technological transformation. We demonstrate new possibilities and highlight responsible solutions. Our researchers develop concepts, tools and guidelines to help designers navigate the technological transformation.
I love working on developing bicycles, environmentally friendly cars and aircraft interiors that are comfortable and at the same time generate knowledge in this area.
