What will happen to my data?
The Product Evaluation Lab attaches great importance to taking good care of personal data. For this reason, personal data are carefully processed and protected. In doing so, we adhere to the requirements of privacy legislation. For example, this means that we:
- clearly state the purposes for which we process personal data. This happens when we request your personal data and by means of this privacy statement;
- limit the collection of personal data to what is required to achieve the purpose of the processing;
- first ask you for explicit permission to process your personal data in cases where your permission is required;
- do not provide your personal data to third parties, unless we are legally obliged to do so;
- take appropriate security measures to protect your personal data and require the parties that process the personal data to do the same;
- respect your right to inspect, correct or delete your personal data at your request.
If you wish to contact us about the panel registrations after reading this privacy statement, you can send an email at pel-io@tudelft.nl.
Purpose of panel registrations
The purpose of the panel registrations is to enable TU Delft PEL to have access to the personal data of consumers in order to be able to select the right target groups for scientific research and education. All studies conducted by PEL are approved in advance by the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) of TU Delft. Click here for more information: Human Research Ethics – TU Delft.
At the start of each study, each panel member is presented with a declaration of consent, which also describes the research in question. A panel member voluntarily participates in the study and can at any time refuse to participate in a particular study. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Participation and termination of participation in the panel
You can only participate in the panel once you have registered with the PEL panel. When registering, you will be asked to provide some background information (see ‘Personal data’) and indicate that you wish to participate in the scientific studies conducted by us. As a panel member, you receive a unique reference number linked to your personal data. Only this number is visible to researchers. Participation in the panel can be terminated at your request by sending an email to the PEL panel.
Personal data
The following personal data is included in the panel registrations: 1. name, initials; 2. gender; 3. address, postal code and place of residence; 4. email address; 5. year of birth; 6. number of household members; 7. type of home; 8. level of education; 9. job, if applicable; 10. net household income.
We use the above data to make selections for participation in relevant scientific studies. The results of the studies are processed anonymously and stored in a secure electronic environment of TU Delft. The results are used for scientific research and education. These results cannot be traced back to individuals unless you have explicitly consented to this.
You can always request your personal panel data by sending an email to pel-io@tudelft.nl.
If you are a panel member, we will keep the registration data for as long as you participate in the panel. The questionnaires are sent via a secure electronic environment of TU Delft. If you deregister with the panel, your personal data will immediately be completely removed from the panel.
Provision of data to third parties
Your personal data will never be provided to third parties without your permission.
Security and storage
We take appropriate security measures to limit the misuse of and unauthorised access to your personal data. We thereby ensure that access to the data is protected and limited to those who need it. Direct access to the panel registrations is reserved for a limited number of employees responsible for the panel research.
PEL working method
PEL will take the necessary measures to protect the registration against loss of or damage to the personal data, as well as against unauthorised access to, modification of or provision of the personal data. The researchers have the same obligation.
Dutch Data Protection Authority
Of course, we are happy to help you if you have any complaints about the processing of your personal data. If you do not reach an agreement with us, you also have the right under the privacy legislation to file a complaint with the privacy supervisor, the Dutch Data Protection Authority. You can contact the Data Protection Authority for this purpose. Go to https://www.tudelft.nl/en/privacy-security/privacy for more information about the privacy policy of TU Delft.
