How can we best conceptualize the impact of AI systems on Human Freedom? How can we design AI systems that promote, rather than harm, human freedom? These are the two main questions tackled in ‘Human Freedom in the Age of AI’.

The "Responsible Use of Generative AI in Government" event took place on Thursday, May 23, 2024, in The Hague, South Holland. It brought together industry leaders to discuss the impact of Generative AI on governmental operations and policies. Hosted by Microsoft, Strategic Supplier Management, Google Cloud, and AWS Rijk, the event focused on exploring responsible GenAI integration in public sector processes and considering its ethical and regulatory implications.

“Wat is leven? Kunnen we levende cellen maken van levenloze moleculen?” vroeg een multidisciplinair team van Nederlandse wetenschappers zich af. Om deze vragen te beantwoorden wil het onderzoeksteam, onder leiding van TU Delft, een levende synthetische cel bouwen van levenloze biomoleculen, waarbij ze voor het eerst gebruik maakt van laboratorium-evolutie en kunstmatige intelligentie. Het tienjarige onderzoeksprogramma daartoe, getiteld ‘Evolving life from non-life’ (EVOLF) kreeg van de Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (NWO) 40 miljoen euro toegekend in het kader van de Summit-subsidieregeling.

These tools promise efficiency and bias reduction but raise concerns about their validity, reliability and ethical implications. Research by Evgeni Aizenberg, Matthew J.
