Dr. A. (Ajit) Ahlawat

Profile

I am particularly interested in understanding air pollution dynamics in urban areas and formation of events such as haze and fog. I have completed my Ph.D. from CSIR-National Physical Laboratory in Delhi, India in the field of aerosol instrumentation in 2019. I worked as a Scientist at the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS), Germany for almost 6 years, contributing to the advancement of air pollution monitoring through ground-based and airborne field campaigns.

Research

Currently, as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing at TU Delft, my work revolves around measuring urban air pollution using cutting-edge techniques such as drones, low-cost sensors, AI/ML, and miniature instruments to better understand and address environmental challenges.

DAAD-FCT PPP Project (2024-26) as Principal Investigator
Project Name: Air pollution profiling through UAV-assisted monitoring
Main Objective is to characterise vertical and horizontal dispersion profiles of atmospheric pollutants in the areas which are considered to be of critical anthropogenic activity (rural, industrial, and urban areas), in real-time, using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) equipped with air quality low-cost sensors. This work aims to develop a low-cost and a replicable air quality monitoring methodology, open to the entire scientific community.
