Komal Patil

After earning my Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry from Mumbai University, India, in 2017, I began my career as a Lab Chemist in the R&D department at Clariant India. In 2018, I pursued a Ph.D. at the Centre for Nano and Materials at Jain University, Bangalore, under the supervision of Dr. B. M. Nagaraja and Dr. Arvind Jadhav. My research focused on selective hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions using advanced transition metal-based catalysts, as well as collaborative projects related to CO2 conversion and hydrogen generation. Upon completing my Ph.D. in 2022, I joined Prof. Petra de Jongh's Materials Chemistry and Catalysis group at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, where I worked on catalytic hydroformylation of olefins under high pressure to produce value-added products. I gained extensive experience in catalyst designing, characterization and understanding the catalytic processes, efficiency and deactivation  throughout this period.

In July 2024, I joined Dr. Banosde’s Industrial Catalysis Laboratory at TU Delft as a postdoctoral researcher, where I am currently working on improving bio-liquids produced from fast pyrolysis of paper sludge. My focus is on hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) using commercial hydrotreating catalysts to enhance oxygen removal efficiency, aiming to identify highly active, stable catalysts and optimize process conditions to boost the yield of bio-based products.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and discovering new places. I'm always eager for a thoughtful, scientific discussion, especially over a cup of tea.
