About
DYA - the Delft Young Academy - was founded in 2022 with the aim of building a community for early-career academics who work at TU Delft and have obtained a PhD degree within the past 10 years.
Vision and Mission of the Delft Young Academy
TU Delft’s motto is ‘Impact for a sustainable society’, which envisions Delft University of Technology contributing to solving global challenges by educating new generations of socially responsible engineers and expanding the frontier of engineering sciences.
The Delft Young Academy operates within TU Delft and, therefore, contributes to the same vision and mission and adheres to the same values. Within this context, DYA's focus is on early career academics. The Delft Young Academy envisions supporting TU Delft to be an inspiring, safe, and inclusive environment for early career academics to achieve their full potential in a world-class research and education environment.
Specifically, the Delft Young Academy has the following mission:
- Spark dialogue and cooperation between disciplines and faculties.
- Facilitate the integration of early career academics within TU Delft and the development of a vision on academic policy focused on this group, while ensuring that their voices are heard and valued.
- Support the professional development and fair assessment of early career academics, and
- Connect science, technology, and design with society.
To this end, the DYA board is a trustworthy discussion partner for the Executive Board and other internal and external stakeholders
Strategic Goals
DYA’s strategic goals (SG) for the coming year are:
- SG1: Proactively advocate for the interests of early career academics.
Main interests to advocate for in 2024-2025: career development and well-being. - SG2: Acts as a trusted discussion partner on local and national developments.
Main topics to follow in 2024-2025: ACT policy, Iedereen professor, Social Safety and governmental budget cuts. - SG3: Supports the DYA members by keeping them informed and by facilitating the exchange of ideas.
Specific community goals for 2024-2025 include professionalizing community management, solidifying the event portfolio and increasing member involvement.
Within these strategic goals, the board determined three categories of tasks: Expert and networks, DYA projects, and core tasks.
- Expert and networks: Important topics where multidirectional information flow needs to be facilitated. Relevant stakeholders need to be kept informed and should be able to articulate their concerns towards decision-making bodies that are not directly within their reach. A chosen person within the board will be elected as an expert to play the role of a communicative nexus.
- DYA projects: Initiatives or activities taken on by (a group of) board members. Examples are organizing an event, performing a survey & writing a position paper, professionalizing our core activities, or offering a service to the community.
- Core tasks: Critical processes essential to keeping the DYA running (such as workplan development, BM selection, membership database, finance, yearly overview).
