HydroMetEC: Hydrometallurgy in raw materials utilization
Hydrometallurgical processes have become increasingly important in recent years to extract and recycle various metals from different sources and in establishing circular economy to address the environmental challenges in different sectors. HydroMetEC is a lifelong learning program, awarded by EIT RawMaterials Academy, coordinated by NTNU in partnership with 8 universities and industrial companies. It will educate engineers from industry, scientists at RTOs, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students from universities about hydrometallurgy. The first three years (2020 – 2022) will be funded by EIT RawMaterials.
HydroMetEC organizes three events every year in which the project partners are located:
- Introductory course, providing fundamental knowledge about hydrometallurgical processes and typical unit operations for metal extraction, and typical industrial applications
- Advanced course, focusing more on the important and advanced processes for the industrial applications
- International seminars, on challenging issues in hydrometallurgical processing of primary raw materials, critical materials extraction, metal recovery from secondary resources, sustainability, value chain in metals production and supply.
TU Delft led by Dr. Yongxiang Yang (MPRR group) is responsible for the “Introductory Course”.
