Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi

19 september 2024 12:45 t/m 13:30 - Locatie: TU Delft Library, The Nook | Zet in mijn agenda

Join the free book club organized by VOX Delft and Studium Generale!

This quarter we’ll be reading the autobiographical graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. Published in 2000-2003, the comic explores the childhood of the author during and after the Islamic revolution in Iran. Through the eyes of young Marjane, we learn about the cultural clashes and oppressive forces in Iran, but also about the difficulties of escaping oppression as an immigrant in Europe.

Let’s explore Satrapi’s work and its context together.

We’ll be meeting twice:

  • Thursday, September 19th, 12:45pm: Introduction and book distribution in the Nook (TUD Library)
  • Thursday, October 17th, 6:00pm: book discussion (location: tbd)

Please register for the VOX Book Club so we know how many people to expect.
We’ll have ten free copies of the book to give away to the lucky few! For the rest of us there are eBooks and hard copies available at (online) retailers.

This quarter is all about wealth, greed, and the roots of inequality. With more billionaires than ever, global crises in the 21st century have enriched the few while billions have been made poorer. Can our society keep sustaining this divide?  And if not, where will you stand in the next mass uprising?
