Jorge Martinez Castaneda
As of late, my focus has been on what I have been calling “empathic and inclusive scientific education”. I want to be part of a learning community that not only respects, but welcomes and celebrates the richness and potential of diversity, and I am here to help create it.
Background
Jorge Martinez Castaneda is an Assistant Professor with focus on Education at the Multimedia Computing Group of the Intelligent Systems department of the faculty of EEMCS, where Jorge does research on improving speech recognition in adverse conditions. From very early on in his career, Jorge has had a strong interest in and passion for education. “I was very enthusiastic about the UTQ training I received at TU Delft, implementing what I could in my own education. Throughout the years I’ve thought about the use of technology in education, how to build communities for learning, our quality assurance system and how to improve it. As of late, my focus has been on what I have been calling “empathic and inclusive scientific education”. I want to be part of a learning community that not only respects, but welcomes and celebrates the richness and potential of diversity, and I am here to help create it.”
Towards IDEE
When Jorge heard about IDEE, he saw that the idea behind IDEE very much aligned with his own vision on education. All three themes appealed to Jorge, but they came together for him in the theme future engineering skills. “What I find so exciting about IDEE is the scientific approach we are taking here. We are going to make things formal, document it, design evidence-based innovations, share our findings with our peers and the scientific community. Meaning that the framework and the tools are here to really make this a success, to make a difference.”
As part of IDEE
“With IDEE, I want to have a positive impact on our education, with students who leave university well-prepared for the challenges out there and colleagues who feel confidant and empowered in providing the education necessary to achieve this.”
