The Origin of Minerals

In the area of the exhibit pictured here, stones are displayed in glass spheres formed by magma and lava. The placement of the stones within the space communicate the principles of how they were formed. For example, the stones exhibited sandwiched by walls are those which were formed intrusively (inside the core of a volcano, under immense pressure from the magma). Stones that ‘float’ within the space were formed extrusively (upon eruption from the volcano). The undulating slabs within the space create the feeling of entering a cave.
