Internships
There are several ways to do an internship during your bachelor:
- You can do this as part of your Self-composed minor. Please take a look at the following website Self-composed minor under ‘extern project’.
- The minor International Entrepreneurship & Development minor offers an internship abroad.
- During your Bachelor end project (BEP) it is possible to do an LIVE project, whereby you combine your end project with an internship. We recommend you to attend the BEP information session (in Q2 and in Q4, announcement will follow on Brightspace) and afterwards to contact the module manager of the BEP.
Where to find an internship?
- Curius offers various vacancies, internships and graduation assignments. Take a look at Career - Curius. For questions, please contact the Commissioner Internal Affairs via intern@curius.nl
- Check Brightspace
- Go to https://www.integrand.nl/ / http://globalplacement.com/ or AIESEC in The Netherlands - AIESEC in The Netherlands
- Talk to other students, who have found an internship already
- Talk to one of your individual teachers about his/her contacts with industry
Keep in mind that your internship has to be approved by TU Delft. For your Self-composed minor this is your cluster coordinator and the Board of Examiners and for your LIVE project this the module manager of the BEP.
It is possible to do an internship as part of your TPM master’s programme. On this page, you will find more information about the different kinds of internships and how to find one. Start the process for your internship in time.
Different kinds of internships:
-
The first option is to do an internship during your elective courses in the third semester, in a professional environment outside the University, supervised by an external supervisor and a MOT, EPA or CoSEM lecturer.
- MOT and EPA students are permitted to do an external project instead of the 9/10EC of electives.
- CoSEM students are permitted to do the external project as Track electives (in which case the subject must be related to the Track) or as part of their free electives.
The rules for an external project (TPM593A) can be found in the Course Guide. You need to find an internship, a TPM supervisor and a supervisor at the external company yourself. Your intended TPM supervisor decides whether your internship is suitable regarding the TPM content. For questions that can not be found in the course guide, contact the Internship Coordinator Juan M. Durán.
-
The second option is to graduate at an external company and fulfil your research project at the company. You need to find an internship, a TPM supervisor and a supervisor at the external company yourself. Please note that your internship project needs to be approved by the TPM supervisor before the start of your project. Your graduation agreement has to be signed by the dean of the Faculty (see Forms for the model graduation contract). To this end, please send the draft of this contract including Appendix 1: Description of the graduation project as agreed between the Student, the Company and TU Delft to Joost Groot Kormelink.
Please note, that at the start of the graduation project (in The Netherlands or abroad) you may lack a maximum number of 9 ects. In case of 10 ects or more the graduation kick-off will not be approved.
By doing an external graduation project it is implied that the student takes responsibility for a timely start, progress and finalization of the project.
Warning: some companies may ask you to sign a (bilateral) contract with penalty clauses and/or far too restrictive results for publication (non-disclosure agreement/confidentiality). Never sign such an agreement in order to avoid future problems but ask for advice first. For more information, see the Graduation Portal and check the Tips and procedures document for external graduation. If you have additional questions, please contact J.B.J. Groot Kormelink. -
Some companies offer internships without credits (ECTS). TU Delft does not sign contracts if you do not receive study credits for your internship. Most companies who are in contact with Curius, are aware of this. For questions, please contact Curius.
