A rudimentary quantum network link between Dutch cities

An international research team led by QuTech has demonstrated a network connection between quantum processors over metropolitan distances. Their result marks a key advance from early research networks in the lab towards a future quantum internet. The team developed fully independently operating nodes and integrated these with deployed optical internet fibre, enabling a 25 km quantum link. The researchers published their findings in Science Advances.

EU Marie Curie grant on 6G Evolution for Aaron Ding

Aaron Ding has been rewarded with an EU Marie Curie grant. He and his team will be investigating robust solutions to provide resilient 6G digital infrastructure in the presence of both cyber and physical attacks in future 6G networks in the coming four years. A total amount of €1,5M has been allocated to the consortium ENSURE-6G.

Strings that can vibrate forever (kind of)

Researchers from TU Delft and Brown University have engineered string-like resonators capable of vibrating longer at ambient temperature than any previously known solid-state object — approaching what is currently only achievable near absolute zero temperatures. Their study, published in Nature Communications, pushes the edge of nanotechnology and machine learning to make some of the world’s most sensitive mechanical sensors.

Animal brain inspired AI game changer for autonomous robots

A team of researchers at Delft University of Technology has developed a drone that flies autonomously using neuromorphic image processing and control based on the workings of animal brains. Animal brains use less data and energy compared to current deep neural networks running on GPUs (graphic chips).
