D.S.R. Proteus-Eretes

Proteus-Eretes is a rowing club ran for and by social, driven and sportive students. D.S.R. Proteus-Eretes: “If you want to achieve something, you just have to do it.

Proteus-Eretes and her 1013 members is the biggest rowing club of Delft. Rowing is the connecting factor between all our members. Whether you train for the Olympics, just try to stay fit, or prefer to stay on the side-lines, Proteus-Eretes has a place for everyone. Our association is, since her foundation in 1947, a innovating and consistently growing club. Because of its continuous growth Proteus-Eretes decided to move to its current location on the Rotterdamseweg, The new building, named “de Beuk”, was designed by architect Gunnar Daan. The new location allowed us to build a fleet of over 100 boats. At this moment Proteus-Eretes has the most boats of any student rowing club in the Netherlands. Proteus-Eretes is active on low, competitive and international level, and more important it does so successfully. In competition rowing it is Proteus-Eretes who finishes first the most. In 2020 there were 2

Olympians, who both scored a medal, that came from Proteus-Eretes. Since 1988 we have always been represented at the Olympics. Apart from rowing there is much more to do. Every Tuesday and Thursday it is possible to have dinner and drinks at the club, combined with the occasional party. Plenty of time for fun! Several times a year there are major events organised at Proteus-Eretes. 2 National regattas are organised each year as well as the largest silent disco in the Benelux. On top of this there is an annual winterport vacation, a rowing tour through the Netherlands and many weekends away and training camps. Because of Proteus-Eretes her diverse character, there is a place for everyone at our club.

Projects

WW

The opening of the national rowing season is held at our own club at which the Winter Wedstrijden take place. The event at which every rowing gets to kick off their season is organised bij our own WWK commission with the help of active members of the club. It is known for its cold and snowy conditions, but thanks to the sun and hot chocolate always turns out to be a nice day.

PEiL

Proteus-Eretes in ’t Lang (PEiL) is a major rowing event where many students from all over the country partake. It is organised by the PSI, a commission of our own members, and the event is held at our club. The race, being 4,5 km long, is the longest race that any first year partakes is. The regatta is part of multiple tournaments and is always ended with a large party.

Rowing Tour

After the final regattas of the season it’s time for summer vacation. For many people this is the reason to take some time of rowing, however there is always demand for a long rowing trip. In order to facilitate such an event in the first week of vacation a tour is held lasting several days. With a large group of Proteërs you head towards a location somewhere in the Netherlands where it is possible to have a multiple day tour. You can sign up as a crew or as an individual, which gives you the opportunity to meet new people!

Training camps

Throughout the season our best rowers continuously put in their best efforts to be the fastest at every regatta. To prepare them best for this multiple training camps are held. In February two training camps are organised in preparation of the long distance regattas. The freshmen head to Bruges while the rest goes off to Seville. After the long distance season there is another regatta in Tilburg putting more emphasis on the shorter races.

Drinks

Twice a week we have a drink at Proteus-Eretes, including dinner.

Activity weeks

Twice a year committees organise a week full of activities and parties, like laser gaming.

Ski trip

Every year Proteus-Eretes organises a ski trip at which everyone can join (regardless of your experience).

Parties

Several times a year there are parties organised with a variety of themes.

Groups

Committees

Besides rowing and drinks Proteus-Eretes has plenty more to do. With a grand total of 53 committees there is plenty of opportunity to develop yourself in areas beyond your studies. The objectives of the committees go from organising a national regatta, to make photo’s of event, to repairing boats or organising large parties.

Fleet

When you would like some additional activities, you could decide to join a fleet. Fleets consist of members of different years and can be compared to what other associations call verticals. A fleet ensures that mainly in the latter stages of your time at Proteus-Eretes you still feel connected to the club. Within Proteus-Eretes there exist five different fleets, all being very different. Together with your fleet you can have drinks, go to parties or organise your own activities. The past years we had cycling weekends, bowling evenings and many parties organised by different fleets.
