When I started Electrical Engineering here, I immediately knew it was the perfect choice for me. Nowhere else have I seen so much shared motivation and interest in my fellow students. The community we have here is fantastic: everyone helps each other and encourages each other. Very quickly, I felt at home here and found my own pace. This has allowed me to make effective use of my time and even have more free time than I expected. And this is despite the fact that studies are often seen as challenging and demanding! The combination of a stimulating learning environment and a close-knit student community has made my experience here truly special.

Electrical Engineering is a tough but mostly rewarding study. It takes a lot of time and effort to keep up with the material, but when you have an ‘aha moment’ at the end of the week, it is well worth the effort. On top of this, you start to thoroughly understand and recognise electrical principles from everyday life. Think about induction plates or the power grid. Studying with friends does make studying much easier. I often study together with friends I made at the freshmen weekend and at the study association. By studying together, you motivate each other, and you can explain the material to each other. In addition, friends also make studying a lot more bearable, because you do fun activities in between. Having a drink in the faculty bar after lectures is a great way to relax after a day/week of studying. You can pass the study alone, but with friends it is much easier and more fun.

Hey, my name is Lisanne and I am an upcoming second-year electrical student. When I started studying a year ago, I actually had no idea what the study would entail exactly, but I did know that I liked it so I thought that was the most important thing. Last year, I liked some subjects more than others, but I think you will have that with every study. I am less good at coding but even then the study is passable. Besides studying, I am also active at the ETV, this is the study association of electro and here I do committees. I am also a member of virgiel, a social association in Delft. Here, I have a cosy year club with which I have drinks twice a week.

At first, the transition from high school to university seemed like a big step, and I had to get used to the system and my studies. Fortunately, I soon discovered that I was not the only one struggling with this; together with my fellow students, we helped each other a lot to find our way within Electrical Engineering. And every time my motivation wanes, I look at our big EWI building, where many passionate researchers are working on all kinds of innovations. Then I realise that from my first year, I am already on my way to becoming one of them. This makes me realise the many opportunities Electrical Engineering has to offer and what I can do in the future. Besides, I feel very much at home at EWI, not only because of the study itself, but also because of the harmonious atmosphere of differences in which I can be completely myself.
