Profile
Deger Ozkaramanli (or Değer Özkaramanlı) is an assistant professor in Designing with Dilemmas at Delft University of Technology. She developed the Dilemma-Driven Design method as part of her doctoral studies. In her earlier research, she drew from motivational psychology to introduce personal dilemmas to design practices. Her main goal in this research was to enhance product experience and contribute to wellbeing through meaningfully addressing personal dilemmas.
Currently, she studies dilemmas from a systemic (vs. personal) perspective, for which she draws from the ethics of technology and critical studies. Her main goal is to create space for ethics and critical thinking in design methodologies, without hindering creativity and innovation. Eventually, she aims to help embed ethics in actual design practices. To achieve this, she regularly collaborates with design practitioners using qualitative and participatory research methods.
