Existential Tuesday: Who really rules society?

24 September 2024 12:45 till 13:30 - Location: TU Delft Library, The Nook | Add to my calendar

Societal elites have been a thing for a long long time. But have you ever met the ruling elite? Who are they even?

Where do you think real power lies in society? Is it in the hands of the Prime Minister, biking down the streets of the Hague, or in multinational corporations, banks, organized religion, hedge funds, elite families, secret societies, or in the hands of ‘the people’? Or are we deluding ourselves, and is nobody really in charge? The power to influence history comes in many forms. We’ll need to find a definition of power and what it means to rule.

Down the rabbit hole we go.

Existential Tuesdays

Existential Tuesdays are small weekly* lunch discussions in the Nook of the TUD Library. Practice your critical thinking skills, learn to see the world from different perspectives, and hang out with your fellow deep thinkers in Delft.

Check out SG’s related events this quarter on the theme: Power and Privilege?

This quarter is all about wealth, greed, and the roots of inequality. With more billionaires than ever, global crises in the 21st century have enriched the few while billions have been made poorer. Can our society keep sustaining this divide?  And if not, where will you stand in the next mass uprising? Check out the full agenda.
