Delft Excellent Laboratory Facilities for Innovation and Nuclear Education (DELFINE)

The Netherlands is in a transition from a fossil-based energy supply to a CO2 -free energy supply in which nuclear fission energy has been given an important role by the Dutch government.  Nuclear technology is also increasingly being developed for medical applications, such as diagnosis and therapy of patients. In particular, the Dutch government is focusing on the construction of new nuclear power plants: two large light-water reactors as well as small modular reactors, and the construction of the PALLAS isotope production reactor. Meanwhile Dutch industry is fully engaged in the modernisation, extension and expansion of nuclear facilities, for example for uranium enrichment, energy production, waste processing and the production of medical isotopes.

These developments require a large number of well-educated people trained with state-of-the-art technology. TU Delft is committed to increasing the training capacity of engineers with a nuclear profile to enable these nuclear developments in the Netherlands.

DELFINE has been set up to support students who want to use nuclear technology to contribute to a sustainable society, to increase the training capacity for these students and strengthen the necessary laboratory infrastructure.

DELFINE has the objective to strengthen the education and research by undergraduate and graduate students, PhD students and postdocs at TU Delft in the field of nuclear technology in a broad sense (nuclear energy, medical isotope production, and other nuclear technology).

Delft University Fund has established this Named Fund to facilitate donations to DELFINE. Donors are asked to commit to a fixed annual amount for a minimum of 3 years. With sustained support, larger investments can also be made that can be amortised over several years.
