Ir. Jerom Aerts

Profile / Introduction

Jerom holds a Bachelor's degree in Earth Sciences and a Master's degree in Hydrology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Currently, he is a PhD candidate at the Department of Water Management. Jerom is also involved in developing FEWS systems in collaboration with the Hydraulic Engineering department at TU Delft. In addition to his research work, Jerom participates in the international early career community, contributing to organizations such as AGU-H3S, YHS-NL, and the AGU Catchment Hydrology Technical Committee.

Research

Jerom helped co-develop the eWaterCycle platform, a platform designed for open and FAIR hydrological model experimentation. Leveraging his expertise in this platform and hydrological models, Jerom is currently working on exploring various topics such as spatial-temporal scaling, the significance of uncertainties, and the use of catchment descriptors as precursors for model selection. In addition, he is evaluating the potential of integrating radar rainfall nowcasting blended with numerical weather predictions to improve the efficacy of flood early warning systems as part of the Interreg EMR project.

Other activities

Young Hydrological Society Netherlands (YHS-NL) boardmember.
