Online course: Road safety

This online course is for road safety professionals working for the government, private sector, universities, NGO’s or international organizations eager to increase their knowledge and learn new skills and tools to improve road safety practice. This course is also for professionals dealing with the design and implementation of road safety strategies interested in how to apply the latest models and theories in this field and for decision- and policy makers, researchers, advisors or pressure groups who want to deepen their understanding of important underlying factors about road safety.

Traffic safety (CIE5810-19) – graduate course

The course covers topics related to human factors and road user behaviour, road design, and the vehicle. At the end of this course students will be able to define a road safety problem, identify the research gaps, define their research objectives, propose a research method, and apply the knowledge, and theories and models discussed in the course.

Intelligent Vehicles for Safe and Efficient Traffic (CIE5805) – graduate course

The course is aimed at theoretical and practical understanding of the interaction between intelligent systems and services, driving behavior and traffic flow characteristics. Students work in group and learn how to develop a design of intelligent systems in vehicles, including the technological components and control modules and assess the impacts in terms of behavioral adaptation, traffic safety and efficiency.

Geometric design of roads and railways (CTB3370-18) – undergraduate course

The course covers the fundamental issues in designing roads in urban and rural settings, and for multiple road users (drivers, cyclists, pedestrians). This includes the design of road sections, intersections, roundabouts, and interchanges. The design approach considers the human factor element in the design process. Data and insights from the scientific literature on the needs, capabilities, and limitations of road users, including perception and effects of visual demands, cognition and influence of expectancies on road user behaviour and other factors are discussed.

Delft road safety course – international course for low and middle income countries

The objective of DRSC is capacity building for road safety professionals in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). The annual Road Safety Course in Delft is one of the core activities, besides organizing local courses abroad and supporting training and research programmes in LMIC. DRSC courses are ‘evidence-based and data driven’ and take their conceptual framework from the Safe System Approach. Participants are trained to analyse road safety problems and how to come to effective and efficient solutions, making use of the growing stock of data and knowledge. This includes the development and implementation of road safety strategies adapted to local conditions.
