Gal Akrish
Profile
Gal obtained his PhD at the Environmental Fluid Mechanics section within the department of Hydraulic Engineering, Delft University of Technology. His dissertation focused on spectral modelling of coastal waves. In November 2022, he started a postdoc position also in the section of Environmental Fluid Mechanic. As a postdoc, Gal is working with Ad Reniers and Marcel Zijlema on developing spectral modelling capabilities for infragravity waves.
Research subjects
Gal’s main research interests are related to wave physics and wave modelling. His research is motivated by the growing need for efficient yet accurate forecasting tools capable of reliably predicting the development of waves over large spatial-temporal scales. Such tools are especially important for coastal regions, where waves are a major cause of flooding and coastal erosion under storm conditions. Together with other colleagues in the department, Gal is working on the development and improvement of these essential wave forecasting tools.
