Dr.sc. F. (Franziska) Glassmeier
Profile
I joined TU Delft in April 2020 as an Assistant Professor in the Atmospheric Science Section of the Department Geoscience & Remote Sensing. Previously, I worked at Wageningen University and at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Boulder in the United States. I obtained my PhD in Atmospheric Physics from ETH Zürich in 2016. I have studied Physics at the University of Göttingen in Germany and completed my diploma thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization. See here for a full CV.
Research
My research is broadly motivated by the complexity of clouds and approaches to capture this complexity – with the goal of better constraining the role of clouds in climate projections. I am especially interested in the marvelous pattern that clouds exhibit, the intriguing effects of cloud ice and the diverse interactions of clouds with atmospheric aerosol. My methods combine traditional process-based approaches and data science with concepts from dynamical and complex systems theory. My research is supported by a Branco Weiss Fellowship and an ERC Starting Grant.
