Urban Architecture
Rhythms of Seasons and Spaces
This project reimagines the urban landscape in the Bressoux neighbourhood of Liège through self-sustaining vegetable gardens. There is an abundance of informal vegetable gardens in the neighbourhood that are affected by the removal of industrial activities, which impacts the communities and their identity and leaves the soil polluted. This project proposes a comprehensive renovation plan that incorporates natural systems and follows the rhythm of the seasons. To effectively respond to climatic variations, this thesis employs architecture as a tool to create a harmonious coexistence between humans and the ecological infrastructure, emphasising low-tech solutions inspired by the permaculture principle. Designing with the seasons enables the integration of prevalent urban and ecological resources, challenging the current capitalist structure and excessive resource consumption. Flexibility in adapting to the needs of the neighbourhood, but also to climate change, makes a place and its identity resilient.
