Atelier Bow-Wow is a Tokyo-based firm, founded by Yoshiharu Tsukamoto and Momoyo Kaijima in 1992. Their interest lies in diverse fields ranging from architectural design and urban research to the creation of public artworks. The practice has designed and built houses, public and commercial buildings mainly in Tokyo, as well as Europe and the USA. Their urban research studies lead to experimental projects and have been exhibited across the world. Last year they gave a well-attended lecture in the Designers of the Future series at our faculty.
Atelier Bow-Wow will, during their visiting professorship focus on the theme ‘Constructing the Commons’, which is the central focus of all studio’s of the Methods and Analysis chair next semester. The ‘commons’ will be explored in a double fashion: first, they are understood as a series of concrete architectural and urban figures, which can be found in the Western and non-Western city and represent an idea of commonality. Secondly, the ‘commons’ are looked upon from a procedural perspective, implying rituals, pleasures and politics that articulate the architectural project.
