International cooperation
Partnerships are crucial for the TU Delft to be able to find innovative solutions to create impact for tackling today’s global challenges and sustainable development goals (SDG) in both the regional and international context. With a participation in selective global alliances and networks the TU Delft will continue to pro-actively seek a position to influence and assure its visibility as an academic institution in both local and global ecosystems of broad stakeholders with a shared focus and aim to create Global Impact.
Research Partnerships
The basis of research and education partnerships originates from carefully established ‘researcher-to-researcher’ networks where curiosity and focus brings together academics on matching expertise creating synergy. Some of these TU Delft’s long term academic collaborations have grown into a number of joint theme based research programme initiatives in both Europe and beyond. They intend to open up access to external funds, new research environments and laboratories as well as talented young researchers.
The TU Delft aims to strengthen its’ relations with a select number of worldwide university partners. For example, during the period 2018-2024 the TU Delft will strengthen university-wide scientific collaboration with partners in Brazil, China and India. While through the Delft Global Initiative the university wishes to boost science and technology for global development and impact in Sub Saharan Africa and South-East Asia.
Academic Networks
TU Delft is a founding member of the IDEA League, a strategic alliance among five leading European universities of technology, science and engineering. The IDEA League’s main ambition is to contribute to making Europe a world leader in science and technology by sharing academic resources and knowledge. The other four member institutions are ETH Zurich, RWTH Aachen University, Chalmers University of Technology and Politecnico di Milano.
The Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research (CESAER), of which TU Delft is a founding member, is an international association of more than fifty leading European universities of technology and engineering schools and faculties at comprehensive universities and university colleges. CESAER aims to champion excellence in higher education, training, research and innovation; influence debate; contribute to the realisation of open knowledge societies; and, deliver significant scientific, economic, social and societal impact.
TU Delft is also a member of the European University Association (EUA), the principal European body for the higher education community. The EUA stimulates the development of a coherent system in European higher education and research.
Europe
TU Delft aims to continue its strong presence in European consortia for implementing research and innovation projects as part of the eight European Union Framework Programme – Horizon 2020. On top of that, the TU Delft aims to be among the leading European Universities for top-notch researchers funded by the European Research Council and the MSCA Programme. In order to contribute to the strategic development of the European research and innovation policy (Horizon Europe 2021-2027), the TU Delft engages in dialogue with the relevant European institutions.
