TU Delft provides financial support for new LAGA building and Proteus-Eretes renovation
Delft rowing clubs LAGA and Proteus-Eretes have been promised extra financial support from TU Delft in the coming years. The clubs and their 1,700 members have set aside a significant sum for the building plans, but desperately need TU Delft support to make their plans come to fruition.
LAGA forced to relocate
With a view to boating traffic safety on the Schie, the province of South Holland has ordered LAGA to relocate to accommodate the necessary expansion. In face of this mandatory move, LAGA will have to build a new clubhouse for which it lacks the necessary funds. TU Delft will provide LAGA with a total of EUR 1 million over 15 years as a contribution to the sports-related costs for the new building. In addition, the university will stand surety with the municipality of Delft for a loan to be taken out by LAGA to cover the remaining costs.
Proteus-Eretes building in need of renovation and expansion
The Proteus-Eretes clubhouse no longer meets sustainability, safety and hygiene requirements, and the club has outgrown its current headquarters. The building will therefore have to be renovated and expanded. Seeing as Proteus-Eretes does not have the financial resources to realise this new building without support, the university will contribute EUR 300,000 spread over 15 years.
The Future
This one-off financial support will be given in addition to the annual contribution the clubs receive for their sports-related activities to ensure accommodation for both student clubs. As a result, TU Delft students will be able to take part in rowing activities and hone their rowing skills alongside their studies. Provided enough funding can be secured, construction is scheduled to start by the middle of next year.
