Mark Vermeulen is a new PhD student in the Menzel group. He will focus on the theoretical analysis and image processing of light scattering signals. Specifically, he will work on developing a model for the reliability of reconstructed fiber orientations in biological tissues, and investigate various ways to retrieve additional information from the scattering patterns. This includes the use of machine learning to classify tissue types, and multi-wavelength measurements to estimate fiber diameters.

Mark studied Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics at the TU Delft, and focused on medical imaging and MRI physics during his Master's project.
