Martin van Gijzen has been appointed as the new Scientific Director of the DHPC
Effective September 1, Martin van Gijzen has been appointed as the new Scientific Director of the Delft High Performance Computing Centre (DHPC). Van Gijzen brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the centre, and he is committed to further developing the centre into a knowledge hub and go-to portal for high performance computing expertise at the TU Delft. This means not only helping users make the most of DelftBlue, but also assisting them in accessing other supercomputing resources, such as SURF or European supercomputers.
"Providing the best possible service to students and scientists is our top priority," says Van Gijzen. "We want to make sure that our users are satisfied and that they have all the resources they need to conduct their research efficiently and effectively." Beyond the campus, Van Gijzen is committed to aligning the centre’s work with major European and national scientific programs, solidifying its reputation as a leading knowledge centre in the field of high performance computing. One of the ways he plans to achieve this is through a focus on education.
High performance computing plays a critical role in today’s society, driving innovation in various fields. In healthcare, it enables researchers to analyse complex biomedical data at unprecedented speeds, leading to faster and more accurate diagnoses, as well as the development of personalized treatment plans. In the field of energy transition, high performance computing is instrumental in simulating renewable energy sources, supporting the transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy system – but also in modelling our quickly changing climate.
