Test Integral Design & Management
The Integral Design & Management (IDM) Section conducts research at the system scale towards the transition to a resilient, sustainable and community-centric future through the development of integral design and management processes spanning the civil infrastructure life cycle. IDM houses an interdisciplinary group of scientists, engineers and managers who work with the premise that systems are socio-technical. The research conducted at the IDM Section includes, but is not limited to, the development and integration of digital and sustainable solutions with infrastructure design, construction and operation, enhancing circularity in design and construction processes, innovative asset management in engineering to prolong infrastructure life and minimize maintenance impacts, and bolstering infrastructure resilience against natural and human-made hazards. IDM investigates these areas with a human-centric approach, emphasizing project leadership, stakeholder engagement, project performance, team integration and collaboration, and human-computer interaction.
IDM leverages its expertise on decision support, digital transformation and management of projects, and connections with a broader network of researchers and practitioners to improve the value of infrastructure. Further, IDM hosts flagship inter-faculty education programmes such as the MSc in Construction Management and Engineering (CME), Minor in Project Management Nano to Mega, and Minor in Integral Infrastructure Design (IID). This synergetic collaboration and research activities produce impactful outputs that support infrastructure authorities, engineering consultancies, and policymakers in their decision-making process and shape the new generation of engineers.
