TU Delft researchers are undertaking various projects with Indian partners in the health domain.
In one collaboration, Dr. Gerwin Smit and partners in India, developed the ‘100 Dollar Hand’, a 3D-printed hand prosthesis. The Indian social enterprise Vispala, brought to hand to the market in 2021, under the brand name ‘iGrip’. Vispala won a prize for making the design available to people with disabilities.
The “SMART Surgical system: High-quality medical devices making minimally invasive surgery applicable to low-resource settings” is led by TU Delft and the International Federation of Rural Surgeons located India. The project aims to develop affordable minimally invasive devices able to scale up the availability of minimally invasive surgery (MlS) in low resource settings. The developed devices will make MIS more affordable, safer, and easier to perform.
A MOOC on Biomedical Equipment: Repairing & Maintaining Biomedical Devices launched in January 2022 has already reached a large audience in India.
