ABE 023 | Research Data Management

Course description RDM

Research Data Management (RDM) is an important research skill that concerns about careful handling and organizing all types of research materials. It is part of the professional competences that you can assess, identify, and resolve relevant data management issues in research. In addition, RDM is also closely related to other components in Open Science, such as Open Access publishing, research ethics, research integrity and so on.

Research data in the field of architecture and built environment is diverse in terms of the type (content wise) and the format (digital, non-digital). Managing and publishing research data in this field is still at an early stage and requires more awareness and advocacy from the research community. This course is the starting point to understand the disciplinary insights regarding data management and provides guidance to start managing the research data.

After following the course, the participants are expected to have a good understanding on:

  • Role of data management in research
  • Lifecycle of research data management, including important issues at each stage
  • Data management plan (DMP)

  • General ethical issues in doing research in architecture and the built environment
  • General sensitivity and privacy concerns in research in architecture and the built environment
