Dino eggs in CT scanner

Usually, the microCT scanner at the Geoscience & Engineering Lab is busy scanning cores of rocks. This time there were some very special stones in the scanner.

Fossilised dinosaur eggs were scanned to look for the presence of embryos!

Auke Barnhoorn: "We offered to scan the eggs because our scanner should be able to scan them at high resolution. The scan datasets may help the employees of the Prehistoric Museum determine whether the eggs indeed contain signs of embryos!"
