Dr. A. (Achilleas) Psyllidis

Profiel

Achilleas Psyllidis is an Assistant Professor of Urban Mobility and Director of the Urban Analytics Lab at Delft University of Technology. He is also the Director of the Social Urban Data Lab at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions. He is further affiliated with the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for BOLD Cities.

His research bridges urban planning & design, sustainable urban mobility, and spatial analytics. He explores how the design, structure, and perceived qualities of the urban environment affect the mobility and accessibility opportunities of different population groups. He develops innovative methodologies for measuring accessibility to destinations and analyzing human mobility dynamics in a variety of settings by leveraging advancements in spatial data science, graph theory, network analysis, and urban design. These measurement methodologies are subsequently integrated into open-source software tools (e.g., CTwalk Map) to improve urban mobility and support the design, planning, and policy toward more livable and inclusive communities.

He leads and participates in several research projects on urban mobility, environmental exposures, public health, and well-being. Additionally, he is a member of the ‘Pathways to Mobility Futures’ Vision Team of TU Delft's Transport & Mobility Institute. His research is funded by national (NWO, KNAW, Medical Delta) and international organizations (Horizon 2020, SSHRC Canada, FAPESP Brazil) and has benefited from collaborations with academic institutions across Europe, the United States, Canada, and Brazil. He serves on the Computation Urban Planning and Urban Management (CUPUM) Board.

    CTwalk Map: Best Demo Award

CTwalk Map is an interactive web tool that unveils the potential of social encounters and access inequities in urban neighborhoods by leveraging open-access data. Drawing on information from various open sources, including population, location, and pedestrian network data, the tool estimates the number of individuals across different age groups who can reach city destinations within a 5 or 15-minute walk, highlighting opportunities for social cohesion and disparities in access.
