Profiel
Jiho Kim is a PhD candidate at TU Delft working in the Materialising Futures section of the Sustainable Design Engineering department, Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. From his interest in Anthropocene dynamics to the relationship between humans and non-humans, Jiho has built his design knowledge across disciplines around ethical discourse. His current research delves into the alternative biodesign process with an interest in non-anthropocentric approaches and the role of immersive digital tools. He studies the implementation of his theoretical proposals by blending biological assays with design practices.
Academische achtergrond
Before joining TU Delft, Jiho was trained as an art educator and designer. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Applied Art Education at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea. During his studies, he proposed various forms of social studies in art education and design, ranging from participatory art course demonstrations to design conceptualisation. Jiho then pursued a Master of Research in Design at the Royal College of Art in London, United Kingdom, with a focus on critical studies involving posthumanism and the relationship between humans and nature. In September 2022, he joined the faculty as a PhD candidate affiliated with the Materials Experience Lab, where he aims to contribute to the growth of the biodesign field.
