FAQ

It seems like Turnitin stopped scanning the submitted document after a certain page, why is this?

If you use the Exclude bibliographical materials setting Turnitin recognises certain words and phrases as beginning and terminating phrases. Examples of beginning phrases are ‘bibliography’, ‘references’ or ‘sources’. Examples of terminating phrases are ‘appendix’ or ‘acknowledgements’. For the full list of beginning and terminating phrases please see this page. It is possible that one of these beginning phrases was recognised within the submitted document, and all matches found after this beginning phrase are therefore excluded from the report. You can include these matches by turning off the Exclude bibliographical materials setting in the Similarity report. To do so:

  1. Open the report, and go to Filters in the top right corner.
  1. Turn off the checkmark in front of Exclude bibliography.
  1. Click Apply Filters.
