In August 2019, the new Eco-Runner Team Delft, consisting of 27 students from Delft University of Technology, started developing the Eco-Runner X. With the construction of a hydrogen car, they want to contribute to a sustainable future. On the 10th of September, The Human Power Team, made up of students from TU Delft and VU Amsterdam, broke the women’s world speed record for cycling. Athlete Rosa Bas reached a speed of 122.12 km/h, breaking the old record that stood at 121.8 km/h. The students have constructed their own aerodynamic recumbent bike to take part in the World Human Powered Speed Challenge, taking place until 14 September in the Nevada Desert in the USA.

The Forze VIII, developed by TU Delft students, was the first ever hydrogen racing car to secure a podium place in an official race this weekend. On Saturday 17 August, team Forze finished second in the Supercar Challenge at the TT Circuit in Assen. The race saw the team’s hydrogen racing car beat conventional petrol-powered racing cars.

On Sunday 28 July the TU Delft MOR (Modular Office Renovation) team finished second at the 2019 Solar Decathlon Europe. MOR was the only Dutch team at the world championships for building energy-efficient houses, which took place in Szentendre, Hungary. The TU Delft students with their self-built energy-efficient house were at the top of the overall ranking from the start of the competition, but were overtaken by the French team HABITER2030 on the thrilling final day.

On Saturday 27 July the Human Power Team, a student team from TU Delft and VU Amsterdam, presented their latest aerodynamic bike at the Dutch National Military Museum in Soesterberg. The team hope that this recumbent bike, named the VeloX 9, will break the world speed record for cycling – which currently stands at 121.8 km/h – in the Nevada desert in the USA.
